COLD WEATHER TIPS
Small steps can help protect your home, your neighborhood, and the city during extreme cold.
Let a thin stream of cold water run from a low-level faucet when temps drop below freezing.
Open cabinet doors to help warm air reach indoor pipes, especially under sinks.
Disconnect outdoor hoses and shut off exterior spigots.
Keep bottled water on hand for temporary service disruptions.
Check sump pumps to reduce the risk of basement flooding.
Know that street sweeping cannot operate during freezing temperatures, service may be temporarily paused for safety.
Clear leaves and debris from storm drains when safe to do so.
Keep sidewalks and curb lines clear for crews and equipment.
Stay tuned to DPW social media and emails for service updates.
Be sure to turn on a small stream of water in your home. The movement of water prevents your pipes from freezing up.
Protect your pipes by opening cabinet doors under sinks to let warm air circulate. This simple step can help prevent freezing and keep your water flowing smoothly!
Don’t wait — report water main issues right away to keep water flowing!
